WB may urge the Centre for more forces if necessary

Kolkata, March 5 (PTI): A day after the killing of JMM MP Sunil Mahato in neighbouring Jharkhand, West Bengal Government today said it would urge the Centre for more central forces, if necessary, to keep watch on Maoist-affected districts bordering the adjacent state.

"Six companies of central forces are deployed in such problem districts and if required we will urge the Centre for more," Roy told reporters at the state secretariat. The Maoist menace had neither increased nor decreased in West Bengal in the last two years, he said. To a question, Roy said Maoists were carrying out subversive activites in West Bengal from Jharkhand. The strike called by JMM in Jharkhand during the day had no impact in West Bengal but a general alert was in force. The Hindu
