KAKINADA: Three top Maoists, including a woman, were gunned down in an exchange of fire between the anti-naxal squad police and the Maoists at a remote place between Marriguda and Thangalkota in the dense forest area bordering Orissa and Visakhapatnam district in East Godavari agency area in the early hours of Friday.
The victims are believed to be top Maoist leaders of Orissa. East Godavari Police Superintendent Battini Srinivasulu told a press conference here that around 15 policemen and ten Maoists were believed to have participated in the exchange of fire.
While three Maoists were killed, the remaining escaped into the jungle under the cover of darkness. No one was injured on police side. The SP said that three weapons and three grenades were recovered at the place of the exchange of fire .
The slain Maoists are yet to be identified .The SP said that they were not able to get full details about the encounter as the place was in the thick forests and inaccessible besides lack of proper communication facilities. Additional Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranga Nath was also present.
