Maoist area commander arrested in Gaya

A suspected Maoist area commander, Hriday Ravidas, was arrested after a gunbattle between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and ultras at village Hasanpur under Aanti police station on Sunday afternoon. Forced to retreat, the ultras left behind a large quantity of arms and ammunition.

These included three rifles, an SLR, two country-made carbines, around 200 cartridges, besides Naxal literature and commando uniforms. No casualty has been reported from either side.

Later, police also took into custody four persons of village Hasanpur, who were being interrogated at Konch PS.
According to information, two platoons of CRPF along with the local cops launched a combing operation at village Gauri Bigha and Korap under Aanti police station on Saturday night following a tip-off about the presence of an armed Maoist squad there. When the cops were returning after the raids on Sunday noon, the Maoists started firing at them near village Hasanpur. The jawans also retaliated forcing the ultras to retreat, said CRPF assistant commandant SK Savita.

Later, Gaya SP Dr Amit Kumar Jain and CRPF commandant Rajeev Ranjan arrived at the spot to interrogate those taken into custody.

Two days earlier also, police had recovered two rifles, two pistols, one carbine (all country-made), three cane bombs, two wireless handsets, one static wireless set, five cartridges, one Bindolia, two black uniforms worn by PLGA (People's Liberation Guerrilla Army) squad, besides 50 kg explosives, during raids at village Tetaria under Fatehpur police station.
