BHUBANESWAR: Left parties have lost their identity after their changed stand on industrialisation, activist Medha Patkar said here on Wednesday.
They are no more with the poor and have joined hands with industrial houses, she said addressing an Alternative Legislative Assembly, a forum of mass organisations backing industries without displacement.
Stating that Left parties, including CPM, have distanced themselves from the poor, the Narmada Bachao Andolan leader said Singur and Nandigram episodes clearly exposed how CPM is hand-in-glove with the business houses contrary to the Left ideology. "Left is fighting for the interest of the corporates, instead of the common man, " she said.
Patkar criticised the UPA Government for permitting Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on agricultural land. This anti-farmer decision, she said, will be strongly resisted.
Later, she led a rally of the alternative assembly members to the Raj Bhawan to submit a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
According to convenor Akshaya Kumar, alternative zilla parishads will also be constituted to raise the issues of development in the State. Development projects that do not displace people will be supported, he said. Newindpress
