Fresh tension in Nandigram, 2 girls injured in shootout

Kolkata, March 9 Two girls were injured Friday at Nandigram in East Midnapore district during a shootout between Left activists and a group protesting land acquisition for a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Jharna Kajali (12) and Namita Das (20) received hand and leg injuries respectively during a shootout between two groups - the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (Committee to Save Farmland Eviction) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) members.
Later police went to the spot and brought the situation under control,' Raj Kanojia, inspector general of police (Law and Order), West Bengal told IANS. 'Both the girls were standing in front of their house when the bullets injured them.
The clash between two groups took place all of a sudden,' Sekhar Roy, the officer-in-charge of Nandigram police station, 150 km from here, told IANS. He said no police complaint has been lodged about the incident.At least six people died in Nandigram in January against land acquisition for the SEZ to be set up with Indonesia's Salim group.
