Chhattisgarh bans CPI (Maoists), 5 other Naxal groups

Raipur, April 13: The Chhattisgarh government banned six Naxalite organisations, including Communist Party of India (Maoist), for one year for "unlawful" activities, officials said.
"Under sub-section 1 of section 3 of the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act, CPI (Maoist) and five of its frontal organisations were banned today by the state government," official sources said here.
The organisations were banned for their "unlawful" activities, the sources said.
Besides CPI (Maoist), Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangh, Krantikari Adivas Mahila Sangh, Krantikari Adivasi Bala Sangh, Krantikari Kisan Committee and Mahila Mukti Manch were also banned, they said.
CPI (Maoists) was formed by the merger of the Maoists Communist Centre of India and People's War Group on October 14, 2005, following which they stepped up their activities in the state.
